Families waiting to
meet their children are encouraged to designate a suitcase for orphanage support when they
travel to complete their adoption. FRUA's Orphanage Survey results tell us that, based on
what parents saw, the following items are most needed:
- Desitin and disposable diapers
- Playground equipment - e.g., jump ropes
- Chewable vitamins>
- Rubber balls, etc.
- Pedialyte
- Musical toys
- Developmental toys - stacking cups, rattles, busy boxes, etc.
- Medicines for scabies and ear infections
- Pop-up books, picture books
- Skin-So-Soft for repelling mosquitoes
- Fine motor toys - crayons, paints
- Food - canned and dry goods
No warm, fuzzy toys, please. Everything
must be easily wiped clean. PLEASE TRANSLATE THE INTENDED
USE AND DOSAGES OF MEDICINES. We know of a family that
stopped a doctor from orally administering rash cream! Having the
translation done will also give you an opportunity to meet someone
with an understanding of your child's culture.
For specifics on a particular orphanage,
call the FRUA hot line, (703) 560-6184. In your message, leave the
city and orphanage number (if known)--a volunteer will call you
back. When you return, be sure to send in your completed survey.
