The FRUA Playground Project

Families for Russian and Ukrainian Adoption (FRUA) initiated its successful playground-building
project in 2000. Since then, FRUA has funded and installed playgrounds at ten Romanian
orphanages that service children with severe mental and physical disabilities and one orphanage
       in Voronezh, Russia.

State-of-the-art therapeutic playground structures purchased from Miracle Recreation Equipment
Company were shipped to community service centers that house handicapped orphans in Romania
with the assistance of two non-profit partners, SERA-Romania and Care for Children
      International.

In 2008, we are planning to continue or commitment to building playgrounds where they
       are needed most.

With continued support through donations, FRUA can proceed with this important
program, established in accordance with our mission to improve the physical and mental
well-being of orphaned children in Eastern Europe.

In 2007 FRUA built playgrounds in two different orphanges:

Pitesti Community Center is a daycare center for over 400 disabled children including orphans. It is located in Arges County, Romania.

Focsani Town Community Center includes two family like homes housing severely disabled orphaned children. The center will also serve over 600 disabled children in the community. It is located in the county of Vrancea, Romania.

In 2006, we built 3 playgrounds in Romania in the towns of Sibiu, Brasov and Rimnicu Valcea.

The Sibiu playground was built thanks to a grant from the Dorothea Haus Ross Foundation.

The other two playgrounds were built thanks to the generous donations of FRUA members and friends.

In 2005, playgrounds were installed Romanian facilities in Oradea and Vaslui.

In Oradea there is an institution with 140 children with handicaps which were transferred from 10 small family like homes. For these children, buildings were refurbished and  a community center for severely handicapped children was created including a FRUA playground.

Vaslui provides community service for institutionalized children with handicaps physical therapy, speech therapy, psychology, hydrotherapy and special education.  The FRUA playground installed will serve as both recreation and physical therapy.
