International Adoption Health Program
Philadelphia, PA
This year’s 2-day educational conference was an excellent opportunity for adoptive parents, adoption professionals, educators, medical practitioners, therapists to interact and examine the educational and developmental issues facing adoptees. Our theme this year, Focus on Education and Development: “Where we’ve come from…What lies ahead,” gave us the opportunity to reflect on the past, embrace the present, and celebrate the future of families and children touched by international adoption.
Experts spoke on positive interventions relative to adoptive families, how to overcome educational challenges, impact of adoption on parents, attachment issues, and auditory processing in internationally adopted children. Workshops offered an in-depth opportunity to learn more about development of internationally adopted children, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), updates in international adoption, and sensory integration issues.
New this year was a special “Teen Track” for teens ages 13-18 and a “Dad’s Only” workshop.
