FRUA would like to tell you more about our organization
WHO WE ARE: Families for Russian & Ukrainian Adoption, Including Neighboring Countries (www.frua.org) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization offering hope, help and community to families connected to adoption. Founded in 1994, FRUA focuses on 32 Eastern European and Central Asian countries.
WHAT WE DO: FRUA supports families through our programming and network of adoption, medical, educational and cultural resources and orphan support projects. FRUA-YA is the young adult arm creating connections for our young adult children.
FRUA meets our mission by providing connection, education and support to families who have adopted from our part of the world.
FRUA volunteers work diligently to meet the goals of our 28th year:
1. Increasing and enriching FRUA Young Adult engagement
2. Sharing information, support and advocacy on the issues most meaningful to our families
3. Raising FRUA’s profile as a leading support network and information resource for international adopted families
WHERE WE ARE: FRUA members are primarily in the United States. Membership is divided into ten regions across the US. We have some members living in Europe and Asia, primarily expats. Our volunteers reflect the population we serve – adoptive parents, professionals in the community and our young adults.
WHEN WE CAN HELP: Founded in 1994, FRUA recognizes adoption is a lifelong journey. When children first arrive home, FRUA helps families solve the mysteries of our new children, including adjustments to the new family. As our children grow, FRUA is there. While many families recall attending Winter Fests, picnics and parties, FRUA informed parents on education, medical, cultural and adoption matters. Many families find lifecycle stages bring them back to FRUA, especially as puberty hits and changes everything we thought we knew about our children as they navigate the teen years and the transition to adulthood.
FRUA families find our children go through phases of connection to their adoption and there is an ebb-and-flow of emotions towards their birth parents and birth culture and heritage. As a result, FRUA-Young Adults was formed to give our adoptees an opportunity to connect with each other. FRUA continues to evolve and improve to meet the needs of our families.
WHY JOIN US: FRUA’s treasury is funded by annual dues ($40/year for a family membership, $10/year for FRUA-YA’s) and donations. There are no paid staff, meaning 100% of donations are used for FRUA programming.
FRUA provides opportunities for families to connect. FRUA members benefit from:
In addition, FRUA offers the general public:
It is only through partnerships and funds from membership dues and donations FRUA continues offering these valuable services!
