About Our Work...
FRUA recently celebrated it's 25th year and represents the only international parent support organization to achieve this milestone. Over the course of our history, FRUA has continually sought to adapt our services to effectively meet the changing needs of our members.
Many of our children were adopted at the height of US adoptions from Eastern European, Post-Soviet, and central Asian countries in the early to mid 2000s, and have become young adults with questions independent of their adoptive parents and an interest in developing their own community of peers. And yet, new adoptions continue to take place daily, with this group of parents looking for community and advice.
Much has become clearer over the years about medical, developmental, behavioral and educational supports over the course of childhood, youth and young adulthood. And social media has changed the way parents define community and seek support.
FRUA is responding to these changing needs through a number of approaches:

FRUA is responding to these changing needs through a number of approaches:
- A significant, moderated Facebook presence responding to parent needs daily, even hourly;
- Social media expansion making FRUA activities and updates more accessible to all;
- Expanded educational resources easily searchable by members;
- A Young Adult program providing independent peer connection for our adoptees;
- An adapted regional structure allowing for event coordination when interest and volunteer support is evident;
- A scholarship program addressing the range of paths our children follow post-high school.
